REAL TIME ULTRASOUND

REAL TIME ULTRASOUND

Real Time Ultrasound (RTU) is new technology for physiotherapists. It allows the physiotherapist to “look” at your muscles, inside your body, from the outside (non-invasively) while they are working. And show you in a video screen how your deep muscles are functioning.

These pictures generated by the machine are like a movie of your muscles – “real time” images of your muscle function.

Traditionally RTU can be used to image muscles of the trunk and limbs; here at Dynamic Stability we can assess your core function, those inner muscles from the outside.

  1. Pelvic Floor (PFM) – we can assess whether the PFM is moving in the right direction, and being recruited in the correct way.

  2. Transversus Abdominus (TA) – we can assess whether your “deep abdominals” are able to work to support your spine and pelvis.

  3. Multifidus– your spine also has deep muscles close to the spine that help stabilize the spine. In clients with back pain these are usually not functioning well, so we can assess their function and teach you how the retrain them back to normal strength.
